Trial Account Bonanza!

March 7, 2009 Category: Uncategorized0 Comments

Some of you may have seen the trial key campaign I’ve set up.

Origionaly it was designed as a quick way of distributing my own 6 keys. However, it was a lot more succesful than I anticipated, and I ended up getting inundated with requests (about 50 so far).

To meet damand, I pooled together the keys of friends and associates and have ended up with 180 (-50) keys to give away.

I may set up a site specificaly for this, but at the moment I’m running the trial service through this one.

Stay tuned for more exciting updates.

Bitter Rivals Event & Patch 1.2

March 4, 2009 Category: Game News, Gameplay0 Comments

Bitter Rivals is here, and there are a lot of things I like about this live event and patch.

First is the awesome Event PQ in Barrak Varr with Slayers and Choppers clashing head on, charging from the new barracades and locking weapons in battle. I was nice to fight along side the new classes and push the enemy back to their warcamp.

Next on the list is the graphic and effect improvements. Many spell effects have been introduces and upgrades. New game art has been added which makes some of the higher tiered gear look damn awesome, and some enviormental effects have been added.

Then theres the witch elves. Gone are they days when one they could drop you in 1.5 seconds. Now they require an element of group coordination to push them to their limits. I expect many of the witch elves who enjoyed their reign of terror to be upset, but this change was a long time coming.

Archmages on the other hand seem much to powerful and are almost impossiable to take down. I’ve heard many an Archmage boast about how they can survive 1 black orc, 1 maurder, and 1 witchelf of equal or higher level attacking at once, without much trouble. Currently their survivability is higher than a Runepriest which seems strange on account of their superior damage output.

Lastly is the Twisted Towers Scenerio. The ambience and art show signs of the warp at every twist and turn. My only gripe is the scenerio seems very haphazard and is hard to work out exactly what you have to do and how you can avoid the explosion once all the three capture points are taken by one side. All in all, I give this patch a big 8 out of 10 warpstones!

Heres a quick clip of my first run in the Twisted Tower

So I was waiting for the servers to come back up for the Bitter Rivals live event and the much awaited 1.2 patch and I started reading some of my old Wahammer notices (trying to find my veteran newsletter key) and I stumbled across the “Which race are you quiz”

It was a bit of fun and worth a look, so check it out!

Mythic upgrades game art

February 18, 2009 Category: Game News0 Comments

It was Thursday the 17th when Runepriests across the world logged into Warhammer Online. At first, everything seemed to be normal, just another day, or was it?

Something felt strange, something was different.

Over the last few months, male Runepriests ran throughout the Warhammer with belts wrapped around their ankles (the doing of an elf for sure) but as of the 17th of February, this problem is no more.

Thankfully, Mythic not only fixed this graphical problem, but also upgraded the appearance of the Sentinel Runemantle.

Playing a Runepriest as my main character, I’m always happy when they get some love.

With all the live events, upgrades, and tweaks, these are pretty exciting times in Warhammer Online. Can’t wait to see what the future holds.

(I will include a before and after screenshot once I’m home from work)

RvR PQ’s and YOU

February 15, 2009 Category: Gameplay0 Comments

To save confusion, I will keep this game improvement proposal brief and simple.

The proposal; to give each Keep its own Opposing Public Quest (OPQ).

The explanation; many of you will have experienced one or more OPQ’s in your adventures from level 1 to 40. Incase you forgot, they’re similar to a regular PQ, except there are two sets of objectives, one for Destruction and the other for Order. Theres one outside Gunbad. The first side to complete the objectives progresses to the next stage, usually locking the opposing side out in the process. Keeps already use this mechanic to initiate the chest drops each time a keep Lord is slain, so it should not be very difficult to impliment.

Objectives could range from

  • Destroy supporting keep structures in a specified order to weaken keep door.
  • Kill a number of enemy players (50, 100, 500, etc..) to summon NPC support, example; an Epic Demon of Korn to assult or defend.

The possabilities are wide and varied.

The effect; Giving each keep its own OPQ will add an extra element of competition and excitement. It will give players more structure and motivation by providing them with goals, objectives and rewards for participating in ORvR.

Social Gaming Software

January 20, 2009 Category: Software0 Comments

For all you MMO nomads out there, do yourself a favor and download XFire. This handy little piece of software comes packed full of nifty features such as gamer profiles, auto hardware detection, auto screenshot and video capture uploader, ingame instant messaging interface and a bunch of other tools that makes staying in touch much easier.

Also, its got this neat little signature doohicky that’ll tell people when you’re online, regardless of what toon you’re playing.

On the downside, it tracks the hours played. I dont know about anyone else, but I’d prefer not to know how many hours, days, months, years I’ve wasted playing games :P

Player Update

November 18, 2008 Category: Uncategorized0 Comments

Hey all.

A few people are probbably, and maybe cursing at the absense of their beloved healbot, and with the various rumors that rose after population downturns it may be easy to think I’ve run for the hills or returned to WoW or been eaten by tenticle monster from the deep.

So where have I been? Working mostly. Yeah, very unexciting, but with the global financial crisis going the way it is, It’s best if i make monies while I can. Plenty of time for WARing when theres no business left to capitalise on.

Its a shame really, I really enjoy playing WAR, but taxes, bills and the other nessisity of modern day life caught up with me and bitt me in the butt.

On that note, I’m going to try and be around most weekends for guild events. Not all, but most. Hanging out for the next Bastian Stairs run.

Tchar ate my warband!

October 26, 2008 Category: Gameplay0 Comments

Seems like an unknown developer at Mythic (lets call him Joe) copy/paste the wrong piece of code along the lines, and now everyones converted to a new WAR religion that I’m going to call “Tchar’ism”.

For those wondering what im on about, refer to this screenshot.

If you’ve seen it, you’ve probbably been wondering a few things.

Q: Is it a bug?
A: Yes!

Q: Can i fix it myself
A: Officaly no, but some addons can help.

Lets hope Joe remembers which line that piece of code so it can be fixed soon.

The Ninja Council is born

October 22, 2008 Category: Uncategorized0 Comments

A new guild arrose this week under the name of “Ninja Council”

As you may have guessed, this is an offshoot of the Panda Council, a guild rampart with Ninja Looters.
The name seems to have been chosen in the spirit of satirical humor.

Public concern has already been raised over the choice of name, and its members report that they do not want want to distance themselves from the Panda Council. Why they remain so attached to their former guild is unknown, but their decision does fly in the face of conventional wisdom that assumes that its best to cut all ties with the broken guild. Cant say its the best marketing or political decision, but who knows how they will go, its early days.

All we can do is hope that this new guild will add to the realm of Order, and not take away from it like their former guild was known for.

Good luck to them and fingers crossed.

On a slightly different note, I seem to have recieved both support and backlashed in responce to my shunning of the Panda Council. To those who are upset about what I’ve said, all I can say is, more whining and less playing! Hopefully they’ll spend more time complaining on the forums and less time disrupting others in game.
